This year we have decided to introduce a theme to the roundtable ‘Crossroads: rethinking information literacy
and library instruction in a constantly changing digital environment’.
Join us as we explore how libraries can promote successful information literacy
outcomes in a digitally changing atmosphere through theory-based instruction,
practical critical thinking activities, and faculty-librarian partnership in
pedagogy.
If you are interested in participating, please
let me know before July 22. When you respond, we would appreciate it if
you would:
a) Identify a topic that you would like to
discuss;
b)
Indicate if you would be willing to introduce a topic;
c)
Or, if you do not have a discussion topic or would prefer not to lead a
topic, let us know if you simply wish to attend to participate in the
discussions and reconnect with your colleagues!
We
will circulate an agenda once we have heard from you and will put together a
list of topics. To get us started, we have listed a few topics that have been
suggested:
· Free or
inexpensive software to help create simple guides or tutorials
· Reference
support in Info/Learning Commons
· Social
Media and the academic library
· Apps for
hand-held devices
· A new
initiative at your library (related to IL)
These
are just a few ideas and we look forward to hearing yours. Issues we've
discussed in the past, and that we may want to revisit, include:
Working in Conjunction with Faculty Curriculum Committees;
Critical Thinking through Pop Culture: Faculty and Librarians team up;
Translating the Library for International Students; Demolishing the Reference
Desk?; The Use of Open Source Programs (Zotero); Active Learning; Online
Tutorials; Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities; Distance Instruction;
Marketing IL Services; Incivility during Library Instruction; Connecting with
First-year Students; Use of Handouts in sessions; Media and Visual Literacy.
